This Isn’t Our Grandma’s Marijuana, But That Doesn’t Mean Grandma Can’t Smoke It

The US Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams, a strident critic of cannabis use, recently commented on its dangers, explaining that “this ain’t our grandmother’s marijuana.” His assumption is that, if indeed our grandparents (or we ourselves) smoked cannabis in the day, it was less potent than what is now commonly available. And he is probably correct.

In fact, the issue of cannabis potency has been generating some confusion of late. Dr. Mahmoud ElSohly, who leads the federal cannabis research grow operation at the University of Mississippi, recently shared that he was confounded over why anyone would want to consume cannabis containing more than 8% THC (which is more or less in line with what is grown at his facility, and well below what is found in most dispensaries).  (Read more on Forbes.com)
